The labels spiritual and not spiritual don’t apply to places, they only come from thought. The appearing itself doesn’t split into sacred and not sacred, that division is added after the fact. A seedy nightclub and a monastery are just appearances, each one shaped by conditioning, each one carrying whatever meaning the mind decides to attach. The mind adds purity, impurity, depth, shallowness, but none of that is in the raw showing itself. In direct experience it’s all the same happening, nothing is closer to what you are and nothing is farther, because what you are isn’t a point in space that could be approached or avoided. The moment a place is named spiritual, the naming creates the separation it claims to describe, and the moment a place is named not spiritual, the same thing happens in reverse. Without the naming, it’s just appearance, rising in the same field, with no special access to the source of seeing. The mind can prefer one shape over another, but preference isn’t what is, it’s just another passing inside the same undivided showing.
