Something in the mind keeps insisting there’s somewhere better to be than right here, right now… something more that needs to happen before this counts as okay. Worth asking plainly, who decided that? Not rhetorically, actually look… find the one who compared this moment to some other moment and ruled it insufficient.
It won’t be found, not because it’s hiding, but because it was never a someone making that judgment to begin with. Just a thought, “this isn’t enough,” arising the way any thought arises, then treated as though it came from some reliable authority instead of just being one more appearance passing through.
This is exactly why the mind seems to step out of the moment in the first place, conjuring up a past, imagining some future, a whole story of a someone to inhabit it. The now feels too bare on its own, too ungraspable, so layers get added, memory, anticipation, narrative, to create the sense of a person standing there living it. That’s also why satisfaction never actually lands, the constant upkeep of a story about someone who was never really there to begin with leaves nothing solid to rest in, just more story needing tending.
The moment itself was never lacking… it’s whole exactly as it is, doing nothing wrong, missing nothing required. The dissatisfaction isn’t information about the moment, it’s just conditioning running its usual pattern, always reaching past what’s here for what isn’t.
